Travel Info

Lake Ainsworth Sport & Rec Centre is at the northern end of the coastal township of Lennox Head.
For an event site map, click here.

Lennox Head is a seaside village with one main street offering a few restaurants/cafes, a supermarket and a handful of other shops. The main attraction is the beach.
If arriving in the days before
ACIC main event, Byron Bay offers much more set-up place to hang (unless you want the solitude).

Lennox Head is approx:
– 30min drive south of Byron Bay (nearest train station) & 15min drive north of Ballina (nearest airport)
– 2hr drive south of Brisbane & 9hr drive north of Sydney.

Flying

NB: Regardless of your arrival airport, please remember to consider transit time to Lennox Head so as to arrive at ACIC on time.

Ballina
Airport is the nearest airport, just approx. 15min south of Lennox Head (driving).
However, it is a small regional airport, with flights more expensive and less available.

Shuttles: Ballina to Lennox Head CBD will be approx $20 and take 15 mins travel time
(then a 10-15min walk to Lake Ainsworth, or you might convince them to drop you closer)
– search online for shuttle operators, to see timetables and to book.
Buses: Ballina to Lennox Head CBD will be approx $6.60 and take 25 mins travel time
(then a 10-15min walk to Lake Ainsworth).
– view the timetable, for the 640 service with Blanch’s Bus Company 640.

Gold Coast Airport (aka Coolongatta Airport) is approx. 1hr north of Lennox Head (driving).
This is a major airport (domestic & some international), with more available flights at better prices.
 – if you are struggling to find a flight to Ballina Airport at time/cost you want, it can really be worthwhile checking flights to Coolangatta Airport (factoring in a little more travel time and shuttle cost).

Shuttles: Coolangatta to Byron Bay will be approx $40 and take 1hr travel time
(then you need to find another option for getting to Lennox Head; Blanch’s Bus Company operates service 640, from Byron Bay to Lennox Head – view the 640 timetable)
Coolangatta to Lennox Head CBD will be approx $50 and take 1.5hr travel time
(then a 10-15min walk to Lake Ainsworth, or you might convince them to drop you closer)
– search online for shuttle operators, to see timetables and to book.
– shuttles to Byron Bay operate much more regularly than Lennox Head, so depending on arrival time it can often be a better option to shuttle to Byron Bay, then catch a local bus to Lennox Head. Link to bus schedule above.

Brisbane Airport is approx. 2hr north of Lennox Head (driving). It is probably the best airport for international, WA and NT travellers.

Transfers: You may need to allow half-a-day of travel approx. to get to Lennox Head, using buses or shuttles. If you’re arriving later in the day, you may need to stay overnight in Brisbane and then head to Byron/Lennox the following day.
(note: there will likely be more options for getting from Brisbane Airport to Byron Bay, rather than direct to Lennox Head; and then you can investigate a more local option for getting from Byron Bay to Lennox Head.)
– search online for buses or shuttle operators, to see timetables and to book.

International participants: please be aware that services can be an hour or more apart & distances far.
